Education Abroad

Global Learning

The Department of Theatre and Dance has an ongoing commitment to supporting international programming that supports student study in dance, theatre, or other themes through travel abroad. Education Abroad programs provide students with opportunities to grow and experience the world.  Currently, our faculty offers faculty-led study abroad programs in Cuba and Europe; see below for a full description of Rhythm and Revolution: Cuba and Theatre in Europe: Past and Present. Still others on our faculty contribute to the university’s global learning initiatives through their teaching and research.

The mission of internationalization efforts at Appalachian is to develop awareness, knowledge, appreciation, and respect of cultural differences in both domestic and international contexts in its students, faculty, staff, and the surrounding communities.

For more information about our trips to Cuba and Europe, as well as hundreds of other study abroad programs offered at Appalachian State University, visit the Office of International Education and Development.

Theatre in Europe: Past and Present

London and Beyond

In this three-week study abroad program, two Appalachian State Theatre & Dance professors lead students to England and often, one other European country (typically Scotland, Italy, or France.)  Students have opportunities to see innovative international performance, to interact with artifacts and sites from major periods in theatre history, and to explore European cultures that have profoundly impacted the development of American theatre.
