Welcome to the website of the Department of Theatre and Dance at Appalachian State University! We have many talented students who come to Appalachian to pursue their dreams of contributing to society as performing artists. We also invite students to discover their artistic passions while in college, as we are confident that the arts are a great place for ideas and "art-trepreneurship" to flourish. As the chairperson of Theatre and Dance, I am often asked, "but what do students with degrees in theatre and/or dance actually do?" And I am happy to report that we have recently completed a survey of our alums and have reassuring data to report, as we stress that our graduates must find their way to keep the arts alive in their lives:
- 91% of our graduates in the past five years are employed or are in graduate or professional study.
- 60% are in the workforce or are in graduate/professional training in the theatre, dance or related disciplines.
Please browse our website and explore the possibilities we offer.
For the next few months we are dedicated to honoring the service of Roseanne Peacock. She has made a difference in the lives of students, faculty and staff at Appalachian in ways no other “first ladies” of our university have. Learn how you can contribute to this recognition and to the futrue of the department.
We invite you to explore this site to learn more about the many opportunities available. We encourage you to contact us with any questions the site does not address.
You can make a difference, TODAY!
Each year, we strive to gain more private support of our programs to balance and supplement the state funding that we receive. Many of our patrons donate to the arts as a way to give back, or pay it forward. As a state educational institution we are legislature supported, but not always at the level that affords the type of excellence that we aspire to. We gratefully accept donations of any size, for student scholarships, faculty travel with students, programmatic support, building and facility upgrades or other needs of the department that are not always affordable in these economic times. Learn how you can help, or please contact: Marianne Adams, Chairperson, Theatre and Dance at 828-262-3028 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
