Continuing the Rosanne Peacock Legacy

Rosanne Peacock has made a difference in the lives of students, faculty and staff at Appalachian in ways no other “first ladies” of our university have. Her influence on our university community is far-reaching, and her care for our students has been evident from the moment she stepped foot on our campus, nearly three decades ago. Those who know her well will recall her long standing involvement with the arts on our campus. As she prepares to leave her position of “First Lady of Appalachian,” we are establishing an endowment that will honor her legacy in a way that combines her commitment to our students with her love for live theatre on Broadway.

From Boone to Broadway

Goal: $500,000
Gifts and commitments will establish an endowment fund in Rosanne Peacock’s name for the Department of Theatre and Dance, which will allow these students many opportunities to understand the relationship between classroom learning and live performance. In keeping with Roseanne Peacock’s focus on students, this endowment will also enable new student scholarships, underwrite student travel, provide increased opportunities to work with visiting artists and attend and present at academic conferences.

The Rosanne B. Peacock Studio Theatre

Goal: $500,000
Housed in the Valor center, the Rosanne B. Peacock Studio Theatre will be the hub for student curricular, co-curricular and performing arts club activities. It will be an intimate, state of the art, sustainable production venue, and a place for new, interdisciplinary and cutting-edge work to be created and performed.

More Ways to Give

There are several ways that you can help. Donations can be made toward a specific scholarship of your choice, for a specific purchase or area, or to the general fund. You may be interested in having your name on one of the Valborg Theatre's seats for a small donation. We are also appreciative of any in-kind donations to support our productions. Even with our creative staff and conservative spending, each Mainstage production costs several thousand dollars.

The College of Fine & Applied Arts Fund has been established to support student scholarships, faculty and student development, equipment purchases and equipment maintainence, as well as research, teaching and service awards.

Valor Center Project $2.5 million

The Studio Theatre Project is an addition to Chapell Wilson Hall and the Valborg Theatre that will address some of the needs of the Department of Theatre and Dance. The 12,000 square foot building will include a 55' X 55' flexible theatre that can be set up in a variety of stage/audience relationships. It will also include two 30' X 55' performance studios, some storage and office space.

The space is needed to provide:

  • A flexible theatre space for student and experimental performances
  • A smaller performance space that is equal to the technical and aesthetic strengths of the Valborg Theatre
  • More appropriate performance studios for increased classes that require specialized floors/spaces
  • Facilities to allow for the development of a film studio component of the department

The department has $500,000 toward the project that will cost approximately $2,000,000 to $2,500,000 total. the project can be built in two equal sections - the performaces studios and the studio theatre.
