An original work written by Theatre faculty member, Joel Williams. The play tells the story of Joseph, A 50-year-old man, who sets out on a journey to fulfill a request made by his dying mother and comes to understand the truth of his own personal history. Letters and artifacts that once belonged to his parents instigate flashback episodes that reveal complex relationships and secrets that were hidden from Joseph for most of his life. His father loved two women. One gave him life the other raised him as her own. The play deals with love, loss, betrayal, reconciliation and promises both kept and broken.
Note on historical context: The characters in this play are fictional inventions. However, their story is set against factual history -- the building of Fontana Dam, the incorporation of the North Shore into the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and the ongoing tradition of Decoration Days that require excursions across Fontana Lake into the boundaries of the national park.
Several SPECIAL EVENTS have been planned in conjunction with the play.
A 5 minute video of interviews conducted with Decoration Day participants can be viewed online at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpOPcpMC6Gg A more complete 20 minute video with additional trip footage can be seen at http://vimeo.com/73236713
