Fall Appalachian Dance Ensemble
Annual fall concert featuring faculty and student work. In past years, performances have sold out, so the public is encouraged to purchase tickets early.
Included in this year's concert will be a piece entitled, Le Martye. A work set on ASU students by international Butoh artist Paul Ibey during a week long residency in early November. Le Martyre is a butoh-based dance work, inspired by the life of dancer/actress Ida Rubinstein, and more specifically, the theme of spirituality that runs through her work. Le Martyre is not a biographical work, nor a reconstruction of Rubinstein's art, but seeks to evoke the essence of the artist, as well as using her spiritual journey—both interior and exterior—as an allegory that speaks to all. Violence, sensuality, eroticism, stillness, death, and transfiguration are all part of this journey.
